When a key snaps and half of it stays in the lock, the worst thing you can do is keep pushing. Our broken key extraction service removes the stuck piece without damaging the cylinder when possible, then cuts you a new key so you are not left with a lock that cannot be used.
What’s included
- Snapped keys in house, apartment and office doors
- Broken keys in padlocks, mailbox locks and cabinets
- Key fragments stuck in car doors and ignitions
- New key cut from the lock or from the broken pieces
- Cylinder repair or replacement if the lock was damaged
What to expect
Using purpose-made extractor tools, we reach the broken fragment and draw it out in one piece when we can. That protects the cylinder, so you often keep your existing lock. If the fragment is wedged too deeply or the cylinder is damaged, we replace only what is needed.
Once the piece is out, we make a fresh key. If the key broke because it was worn, we recommend cutting a new set rather than copying the old one, since a worn key can crack again.

Typical arrival is about 1 hour in Mill Basin and Marine Park.
Broken Key Extraction FAQs
Can I pull the broken key out myself?
If a small piece sticks out, needle-nose pliers sometimes work. If it is flush with the lock face, do not dig at it, because pushing it deeper makes extraction harder and can damage the pins.
Will I need a new lock?
Not usually. Most cylinders can be saved if the broken piece is removed carefully. We tell you before replacing anything.
Can you fix a key broken in a car ignition?
Yes. We extract the fragment and can cut and program a new key at your car if it is a chip key.
